Country Farm House Series:
Rolling Pin

housefront

I decided to make a country farm house and furnish it. Everything you see in the house was created by me.

This tutorial will show you how to make the rolling pin (see it there on the end of the table?).

There are tutorials for all of the furnishings in this home, and you will find them all here.

Because there are so many items needed to furnish the house, I've tried to make the tutorials relatively easy so you'll be able to get through them all.

For this tutorial, you will need the following:

Paint Shop Pro. I used version 7.04 but if you are familiar with PSP, you should be able to convert the tutorial without problems. You can download the latest PSP version demo here.

My selection files. Place these in your PSP selections folder (or any location of your choice).

My seamless fill tile.

You may download all of my materials here.

Step 1. Open a new image 350 x 100, white background.

Step 2. Add a new layer. Load selection 1 (go to selections>load from disk - then navigate to the location you placed your selection files). Flood fill with the "01 rpfill" tile (scale 50%, angle 90).

Float the selection (go to selections>select all>selections>float; OR, hit "Ctrl+F" on your keyboard).

Apply a cutout (go to effects>3d effects>cutout) using the settings in the screenshot, using color #98744E as your shadow color.

Repeat the cutout, but change the horizontal and vertical to -1.

Step 3. Repeat step 1 above for selection 2.

Step 4. Hide your background layer and merge visible layers. Then turn your background back on.

Add a new layer. Set your foreground color to #98744E and your background color to null. Choose your draw tool, single line, size 1, antialias checked. Draw some lines on the end of your rolling pin. Don't worry if you draw over the end, we'll fix that in just a second.

Step 5. Ok, now time to get rid of the overlapping lines. Make your rolling pin layer active. Choose your selection tool and draw all around it. Then click on the pin to select it. You'll see marching ants.

Then invert the selection (go to selections>invert).

Then just hit the delete key on your keyboard, and the lines should be nice and neat now. Hide your background layer and merge visible layers. And that's it, all done!

Hope you've enjoyed the tut!
