Here's the third in my series of fantasy flowers. The inspiration for this was all the flowers designs I see in stencils - the softness is really appealing to me. So here's my version. If this flower had a smell, it would be the soft, sweet smell of morning. You will draw all of the pieces to this tutorial from scratch, and color them with a bit of shading. It's not difficult, and I provide screenshots to help you along the way.
Step 1. Open a new image 300 x 200, white background. Step 2. Add a new layer. First you'll draw the little flower. Set your foreground and background colors to #FEC9D7. Choose your draw tool, freehand line, size about 3, antialias checked, create as vector unchecked. Draw a small oval shape similar to mine. Note: the screenshot is actual size - if you wish, you can make your flower larger or smaller).
Step 3. Add a new layer. Now, you'll do some shading on the flower. Set your foreground color to #F6749D and your background color to #FFF5F9 (that way you can shift back back and forth when you color). Choose your airbrush with the settings in the screenshot, and spray some color on your flower. You'll spray alternating lines of the darker color and the lighter color, similar to mine (enlarged to show detail).
Step 4. Now you'll smudge the color around a bit to soften it. Choose your retouch tool, smudge brush, with the settings in the screenshot. Smudge your colors using an up and down stroke. When done, it should look similar to this.
![]() Step 5. You don't have to do this next step, but I think it adds a bit more softness to the flower. Choose your airbrush again, same settings as before, but change the density down to about 10. Spray a few wispy bits on top of the flower, similar to mine.
![]() Step 6. Now you'll make the little bit at the top of the flower. Add a new layer. Set your foreground and background colors to #79A483. Choose your draw tool, freehand line, same settings as before. Draw a small shape similar to mine (screenshot is actual size).
Step 7. I added just a tiny bit of shading to this part. I used colors #5A7E62 and #B8D2BE. Just spray as before and smudge as before. .
![]() Hide your background layer and merge your flower bits together. Make your background visible again. Step 8. Now you'll arrange your flowers on the stem. Add a new layer. Set your foreground color to #79A483. Choose your draw tool, freehand line, size about 2-3. Draw a stem. Then draw some smaller lines where you want your flowers to be. You can use mine as a guide if you wish. Then just copy and paste your flower as new layers and arrange around your stem. You'll need to rotate some of them a bit. When finished, you should have something similar to this.
![]() Step 9. Now you just need to draw some leaves. You can draw as few or as many as you like, can make them all the same, or make them different. You'll draw all your leaves using the same method, which is really easy. Add a new layer. Set your foreground and background colors to the same green you used before (#5BA688). Draw a leaf shape - it doesn't have to be perfect! If you wish, add shading using the same green colors as before, and then smudge. I drew several different shapes for mine.
![]() Step 10. Then, all you need to do is arrange your leaves around your stem and flowers (put each leaf on a separate layer).
![]() Step 11. When you're satisfied with your creation, save a master PSP file with all layers intact, that way you can go back later and change things if you wish. Then, hide the background and merge visible layers. Voila, all done!
