Pracken's Paint Shop Pro Tutorials

Dollhouse Series
Living Room: Sofa

dhlivingroom

Welcome to my dollhouse series tutorials! This is the living room section of tutorials.

This tutorial is for the sofa. All of the other items in the living room can be found on the main dollhouse tutorial page, which you will find here. If you haven't already done so, please go there and orient yourself to the dollhouse tutorials, and for important information you'll need to complete the series.

Once you complete the living room, and all the other rooms, you'll assemble them all into the completed dollhouse.

Please read my Terms of Use before completing these tutorials.

This tutorial was written for Paint Shop Pro versions 9 and 7.04

For this tutorial, you will need the following:

Paint Shop Pro. I used version 9, and have made comments as appropriate for PSP 7 users. I didn't test it in PSP8, but you shoud be able to complete the tutorial in that version as well. You may download the latest PSP version demo here.

My canvas. Unzip it and open it up in PSP

My seamless fill.

You may download all of my materials here.

My color chart. Right click on this and save it to your computer.

My image is just a guide. If you'd like to use different colors/textures, etc. in your sofa, feel free to do so.

Step 1. Open up the "dhsofacanvas" file you downloaded. [PSP7 users - this should work fine for you too]. This canvas includes a background layer and alpha channels.

Copy your color chart and paste it as a new layer onto your canvas. Move to the top out of your way. When you need a new color, just click on it with your dropper tool.

Step 2. Add a new layer. Load selection 1 from alpha channel (selections>load/save selections/load selection from alpha channel - then click on the box and navigate to the selection). [PSP 7 users: selections>load from alpha channel]. [Note: as you're navigating, the selections will be in the order that you need to load them].

Open up the "dhsofa" seamless tile that you downloaded. Set your fill style to pattern and navigate to the tile - set angle 0, scale 30. Flood fill.

Step 3. Add a new layer. Load selection 2. Flood fill with color #1. Contract by 1 (selections>modify>contract). Flood fill with the same pattern as before.

Float the selection (Ctrl+F on your keyboard). Set your foreground color to color #2. Apply a cutout (effects>3d effects>cutout), using the settings in the screenshot (shadow color is color #2 - right click on the color box and choose it from your list of recent colors).

Repeat the cutout, but change horizontal and vertical to -4.

Step 4. Repeat Step 3 for selection 3.

Step 5. Add a new layer. Load selection 4. Flood fill with the same pattern as above.

Step 6. Add a new layer. Load selection 5. Flood fill with color #3. Contract by 1. FLood fill with pattern. Apply inner bevel, using settings in the screenshot.

Step 7. Add a new layer. Load selection 6. Flood fill with pattern. Float. Apply cutout, same settings as above.

Step 8. Delete the color chart and background layers. Merge visible layers (layers>merge). Save as a psp file.

What to do next

Now continue on through the living room tutorials, in order (go here to find the tutorials index, and scroll down to the living room section to find the others). Once you have all of the items in the living room section complete, then go here to assemble it.

Have fun!
