The tutorial uses selections, and I provide a lot of screenshots to help you. I do assume that you have a basic knowledge of PSP and its tools.
Paint Shop Pro. I used version 7.04 but if you are familiar with PSP, you should be able to convert the tutorial without problems. You can download the latest PSP version demo here. My selection files. Place these in your PSP selections folder, or another location of your choice. My transparent holly psp file. You may download all of my materials here. Eye Candy 4000 (optional). If you don't have Eye Candy, you can still do the tutorial by using an inner bevel in PSP.
Ok, everything, in place? Then we're ready to begin Step 1. Open a new image 212 x 212, background color of your choice. Step 2. Add a new layer. Load selection 1 (go to selections>load from disk, and then navigate to the location you placed the selections files). Flood fill with red, #D0311E.
Step 4. Add a new layer. Load selection 2. Flood fill with red. Apply an inner bevel, same settings.
Step 5. Add a new layer. Load selection 3. Flood fill with green #6A7832. Apply an inner bevel, same as before.
Step 6. Add a new layer. Load selection 4. Flood fill with red. Apply an inner bevel, same settings.
Step 7. Add a new layer. Load selection 5. Flood fill with green. Apply an inner bevel, same as before.
Step 8. Add a new layer. Load selection 6. Flood fill with red. Apply an inner bevel, same settings.
Step 9. Add a new layer. Load selection 7. Flood fill with green. Apply an inner bevel, same settings.
Step 10. Add a new layer. Set your color to #E4D9E0. Choose your selection tool, rectangle shape. Draw a candle, similar to mine. I erased a bit at the top for the flame. Place this layer underneath the selection in step 9.
Step 11. Apply Eye Candy glass (setting: glass tubing; bevel profile: button). If you don't have Eye Candy, you can apply an inner bevel.
Step 12. Add a new layer. Set your foreground color to #DD6309 and your background color to #FFCB76. Choose your draw tool, freehand line, size 2, and draw a flame shape on the top of your candle. Step 13. AChoose your selection tool (any shape). Draw all around the outside of your flame and then click inside it to select (you will see marching ants). Add a new layer. Choose your airbrush with these settings: shape-round, size-4, hardness-40, step-25, density-40, opacity-40. Spray some color onto your flame. I chose a darker color #DD6309 and a lighter color #FFFA98.
Step 14. AChoose your selection tool (any shape). Draw all around the outside of your flame and then click inside it to select (you will see marching ants). Add a new layer.
Step 15. Choose your draw tool and set to freehand line, size 1. Set your foreground color to black. Add a new layer. Draw a small black line for the wick. Smudge it.
Step 16. Open up the holly psp file you downloaded. Copy and paste it as a new layer onto your graphic. Place this layer underneath the green layer at the bottom of your candle.
Step 17. I would suggest
saving this graphic now with all layers intact (save in psp format).
That way you can go back later and change things if you need to.
Step 18. Click layers>show all layers. Copy your merged candle layer and paste it as a new layer 6 times. Arrange the candles into place such as I've done. You should have 7 candles.
Step 19. Add a new layer. Load selection 8. Flood fill with white. This selection will be too large, but I had to make it that way to keep the definition of the flower petals. Apply an inner bevel (same settings as before except change the width to 7). Resize by 50%.
Step 20. Add a new layer. Choose your selection tool, set to circle, and draw a small circle in the center of the flower. Flood fill with #F9D683. Apply an inner bevel, same settings as before.
Step 21. Add a new layer. With your selection tool set to ellipse, draw a small oval. Flood fill with the same green you used before. Apply an inner bevel, same settings as before. Copy and paste as a new layer. Mirror. Hide all layers except these two and then merge visible. Make all layers visible.
Step 22. Now copy the little green layer you just merged, 3 times. Arrange these similarly to what I have done.
Step 23. Make the small yellow circle that you drew in the middle of your flower active. Copy and paste as a new layer 8 times. Arrange the circles similarly to mine.
And that's it, all done! Save as a master psp file with all layers intact - that way you can go back later and change things if you wish. When satisfied with your creation, hide the background layer, and merge visible layers. Save as a psp file. I hope you've enjoyed the tutorial!
