Pracken's Paint Shop Pro Tutorials

Country Farm House Series:

I decided to make a country farm house and furnish it. Everything you see in the house was created by me.

This tutorial will show you how to make the washboard (it's sitting right under the stairs).

There are tutorials for all of the furnishings in this home, and you will find them all here.

Because there are so many items needed to furnish the house, I've tried to make the tutorials relatively easy so you'll be able to get through them all.

For this tutorial, you will need the following:

Paint Shop Pro. I used version 7.04 but if you are familiar with PSP, you should be able to convert the tutorial without problems. You can download the latest PSP version demo here.

My selection files. Place these in your PSP selections folder (or any location of your choice).

My gradient. Place this in your PSP gradients folder.

You may download all of my materials here.

Step 1. Open a new image 250 x 350, white background.

Step 2. Add a new layer. Load selection 1 (go to selections>load from disk - then navigate to the location you placed your selection files). Click on your fill styles and choose texture. Navigate to the Stained Wood pattern (it's near the end). Set scale to 100%, angle to 0, and flood fill.

Step 3. Add a new layer. Load selection 2. Flood fill with same pattern.

Change the brightness - go to colors>adjust>brightness/contrast. Set the brightness to 30 and the contrast to 0.

Float the selection (go to selections>select all>selections>float OR click "Ctrl+F" on your keyboard). Apply a cutout using the settings in the screenshot - the shadow color is #AF6207.

Step 4. Add a new layer. Load selection 3. Flood fill with pattern, but change the angle to 0. Change the brightness to 30. I didn't apply a cutout to this, but you could if you want to.

Step 5. Repeat step 4 for selection 4. I did apply a cutout to this one.

Step 6. Repeat step 4 for selection 5. No cutout on this one.

Step 7. Hide your background layer and merge visible layers. Turn your background back on.

Choose your magic wand and click inside the open space of your board. Expand the selection by 3 (go to selections>modify>expand). Add a new layer and place it underneath your board.

Set your foreground style to gradient and navigate to the "pracken_washboard" gradient you downloaded. Choose the linear gradient and use the settings in the screenshot. Flood fill your selection.

And that's it. When you're satisfied with your creation, hide the background layer and merge visible layers. Save as a transparent psp file. It's ready to add to your farmhouse.
